Children from this marriage were:

4 F iii. Sarah A. Babcock was born in 1810 in Rhode Island and died in 1851, at age 41.

While many lists of Babcock siblings include a Sarah born in 1825, I think it is more likely that the Sarah/Sally Babcock b. ca. 1810, d. 1851 (never married, NO ISSUE), who lived in Providence in the household of Cupid and Margaret Brown during the 1840s, is the sister of Christiana. In Sarah's 1851 death record, her father is listed as "James." Other circumstantial evidence: in 1850, before her marriage to Edward Bannister, Christiana lived with Elizabeth H. Smith, the daughter of Cupid/Margaret Brown, which supports a possible connection between the Babcock and Brown families.

+ 5 M iv. James Babcock was born in 1814 in Rhode Island.

6 F v. Christiana Babcock was born in 1819, in Rhode Island and died in 1902, in Rhode Island, at age 83.

There are three free colored males between the ages of 14 and 25, four free colored females between the ages of 14 and 25, and one free colored female under 14. James also appears in the 1830 North Kingstown census. In both cases he is the only Black James Babcock listed in the census during this time.     11 M x. Charles Babcock was born in 1828 in Rhode Island and died in 1879 in Salem, Massachusetts, at age 51.

Charles married Cecelia Remond whose extended family was successful in the business of hair dressing and active in the abolitionist movement.

It appears that Cecelia Remond was first married to James Babcock, and that Charles resided with their family in 1850. When she married Charles her name was noted as Celia Babcock, and her parents were John and Nancy Remond.

During the 1895 Salen Census Charles and his step-daughters are noted as Indian in the race category, this is one more detail corroborating that Charles was the brother of James Babcock and Christianna Babcock Bannister.

Charles and Cecelia are seen in the 1870 US Census at Salem, Massachusetts. Everyone in the household works in the hair profession. Charles's race is noted as Indian.

Charles married Cecilia Remond, daughter of John Remond and Nancy Lenox, in 1867.

Cecilia's husband, James Babcock, ran a hairdressing business next door to the hair works on Washington Street. He advertised haircutting, curling shampooing and shaving for men. James and Cecilia had three daughters, Gertrude (1844 - 1863), Agnes (1846 - 1888), and Cecilia (1848 - 1922). The youngest daughter, Cecilia, like her mother, became a well-respected business woman. 12 F xi. Ruth Ann Babcock was born in 1832 in Rhode Island and died in 1860, at age 28.

It has been suggested that Ruth A. Babcock, wife of William Bannister (brother of Edward), was also a sibling of Christiana. However, no parents are listed in her marriage records, and Ruth's death record lists her parents as "C P" and "H P", which, while not ruling her out as a sister to Christiana, does not provide supporting evidence for it.

In 1850, according to the federal census, Ruth Babcock, aged 20, was living in North Kingstown and was born in Rhode Island. She was living with Jeremiah G. Chadsey (69), Avis Chadsey (69), and William R. Chadsey (4).

He also, at that time, ran a home weaving business employing at its peak 600 home weavers to whom he provided a free tabletop loom in return for a predetermined monthly output of woven fabric which he would resell in his store. Ruth Ann may have also worked in the store.

On 29 December 1854, William H. Bannister married Ruth A Babcock, Christiana's sister. They were married in Boston, MA. But, according to town records, they were both living in Salem.

7. John Spooner Babcock (James 1) was born in 1821 in Charlestown, Rhode Island and died on 3 Jan 1870 in Rhode Island, at age 49.

According to the Rhode Island State Archives; Providence, Rhode Island; 1800-1855, Rhode Island Births, an Evangeline Babcock was born on 19 Sep 1852 to John and Cornelia Babcock. Babcock christened on that date having been born in Providence, Rhode Island. Mary's race is identified as Black.

On December 27th 1855 a Providence Birth or Christening Record for the same couple indicate they had a son "Babcock" (no first name). They also had Evangeline Babcock on September 19th 1852 (listed as Black), though there is a record of Evanzeline Sept 19, 1853 which looks like a duplicate. Their names show up in her death record from February 13 1921 at Providence.

A daughter Estella was mentioned in the probate documents of her aunt Christiana Babcock Bannister. Estella was buried in Providence and appears to not have married and in 1910 resides with her sister Melvenia, so presumably this is another daughter

From his own death record one can see John was widowed at some point, he had been working as a general porter, and his race was identified as colored, and his cause of death noted as Consumption.

John is buried in North Burial Ground [5] in Providence as is his sister the notable Christiana Babcock Bannister.

Note: John and Cornelia are mentioned in the Death record of Eva F. Babcock Gilbert who died of complications of childbirth in 1880 at Nantucket.
